Overview
The Twifo Hemang Lower Denkyira District is one of the 22 administrative districts in the Central Region. It was carved out from the then Twifo Atti-Morkwa District on 29th July 2012 by Legislative Instrument (LI) 2012.
location
The Twifo Hemang Lower Denkyira District is situated in a strategic location, bordered by the Twifo Atti-Morkwa District to the North, the Cape Coast Metropolis, and Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem District to the South, the Wassa Amenfi and Mpohor Wassa East Districts in the Western Region to the West, and the Assin South District to the East. Hemang, which serves as the district’s administrative capital and is the largest town, is complemented by other principal towns such as Jukwa and Frami.

The district houses a population of 70,532 with an annual growth rate of 2.5% and a population density of 82 per square kilometre. Primarily rural, the district consists of 300 settlements in 92 clearly defined communities. According to the 2010 household census, only two communities are urban, making up 14% of the district’s population, while the majority of settlements are farmsteads with a population below 500 people.

The main settlements are positioned along the main Cape Coast– Hemang road. Notably, the district is home to Kakum National Park, renowned for its unique canopy walkway, the first of its kind in Africa. Moreover, the district boasts four Health Centres, one Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG) Clinic, and thirteen Community Health Planning and Services (CHPS) centres.
