Overview

Sene East District with Kajaji as its capital was created out of the then Sene District in 2012 under the legislative instrument (LI) 2091.The district is about sixty-five Kilometers from Kwame Danso the district capital of Sene West and 288 kilometers away from the Regional Health Directorate, Kintampo. The district covers an area of 4,392.4 square kilometers and has an estimated population of 75124.

It is almost surrounded by water to the North, East and South, with an opened land to the West and borders with East Gonja District in the Savana Region to the North, Krachi West in the Oti Region to the East, Sekyere East (Ashanti Region) to the South and the Sene West to the West.

There are 186 communities out of which 38 of them are on the Islands. In all there are 151 communities which are difficult to access due to the presence of water bodies, scattered and long travelling distances with poor communication network.

The District has a projected population from the 2010 census of 78,266 for the year 2023 with three (3) sub-districts namely; Kajaji Subdistrict, Kojokrom Subdistict and Bassa Subdistrict.

The District Three Health centres and Ten (10) CHPS compounds that are fully function and NHIS credentialed.

The occupations of the inhabitants are predominantly farming and fishing with a big market located at the centre of the district capital, Kajaji.
