Overview
The Krachi West Municipal is best described as a peninsular in the Volta Lake situated in the confluence of river Oti and the Black Volta. It is one of the nine (9) municipals/districts in Oti region. It is bounded on the north by Krachi Nchumuru District, to the west by Sene District of Bono Region (Separated by the Volta Lake), on the East by the Oti River, which separates it from Krachi East and on the South by the Volta Lake. It has four submunicipal namely; Dente, Osramanae, Ehiamankyene and Island.The Municipal covers an area of about 3,130sq. Km. About 223 communities, of which 133 are located inland and are accessible by motorbikes or four-wheel-drives on tractor tracks and footpaths. Many of these roads and paths are cut off during the rainy season. In addition, 21 inland hard to reach communities and 69 island c communities only accessible by boat. The total population of the Municipal is 63723 with annual growth rate 1.5 % projected from 2021population census. Total household of 15,982 and 21 health facilities.

climate
It is one of the warmest in the Region. There is one rainy season which usually starts from May and ends in September.

The soil is mainly humus and sandy with scattered rocks all over the Municipal.

The vegetation is semi savanna.
occupation
Farming, fishing, rearing of animals and trading are the main occupation of the people living in Krachi West Municipal. Yam, Beans and Groundnut which are produced in large quantities are transported to Dambai the nearest big market for Sale. Transportation of the goods to other market Centres is via the Volta Lake and the only tarred road linking the Municipal with other Districts.
culture
There is diverse kind of culture in the district due to different ethnic groups in the district e.g.Krachis, Ewes, Nchumurus and Kokombas etc. Their cultures are very indigenous in the Municipal due to the composition of the ethnic groups. The most paramount festival in the district is Nanaba festival usually termed Dente Akwambo where all the Krachis pay tribute to Dente, their god.
There are also some particular days when farmers are not supposed to go to farm and these days are normally turned to market days at some areas.
beliefs and taboos
The general believes of the majority of the ethnic groups in the Municipal is based on nonorthodox teaching and practices of their forefathers. As a result, the following taboos exist in the Municipal e.g. dead bodies do not cross river
