Overview

Kpando Municipal is one of the eighteen (18) Municipalities and Districts in the Volta Region of Ghana and it is one of the oldest in the country. It has, for the purpose of health administration, a total of five sub-municipalities namely; Kpando, Gbefi-Gadza, Sovie-Kudzra, Torkor and Agbenoxoe.

The Municipality lies within Latitudes 6° 20’ N and 7° 05’ N, and Longitude 0° 17’ E. It shares boundaries with Biakoye District in the north, Afadzato South to the East and North Dayi District in the south. The Volta Lake, which stretches over 80km of the coastal line, demarcates the western boundary. The Municipality covers approximately a total land area of 820 square kilometres representing 4.5% of the Volta Region with almost 30% of the land submerged by the Volta Lake. Climate

he climate of the District is tropical, greatly influenced by South West monsoon winds from the Atlantic Ocean and dry Harmattan wind from Sahara desert.

There are three main seasons, two rainy seasons and one Harmattan.

Minor rainy season – August to October

Dry (Harmattan) season – November to February

The Kpando Municipal Health Directorate is a pivotal institution responsible for providing technical and administrative support for health service provision within the municipality. As a cornerstone of the health system, the Directorate focuses on various crucial areas such as resource mobilization and distribution, planning, training, and research programs. The Directorate operates within the framework of national policies and regional priorities to ensure that health services are effectively delivered to all communities in the Municipality.

To provide leadership and support for the delivery of comprehensive and equitable health services, promote preventive measures, and strengthen the overall health system through effective planning, resource management, and collaboration with stakeholders.

At the Kpando Municipal Health Directorate, a transformational leadership style is predominantly applied. This style emphasizes inspiring and motivating team members (Nurses, Doctors, Allied health Professionals, and all health workers) in the municipality to exceed their own limitations, fostering innovation, following standard Operating Guidelines and promoting a collaborative environment. The transformational leader at the Municipal health Directorate empower health staff, and actively involve them in decision-making processes to achieve the GHS’s common goal.
