Background

The Birim Central Municipal Health Directorate (BCMHD) is headed by Mr. Bismark F. Sarkodie, the Municipal Director of Health Service. He was born on 21st October, 1966. He had his O/A Levels Osei Kyeretwie Secondary School, Kumasi, 1986/1988. He continued to Kintampo Rural Health Training college now known as School of well-being to pursue Nutrition Officer’s certificate in 1992. He later continues to University of Cape Coast for his Bachelor Degree of Health Sciences (Nutrition) in 1997 and Diploma in Teaching Methodology in 2005. He holds MSc, Health Education from University of Cape Coast 2011. MPH from School of Public Health, University of Ghana 2018, Post Certificate in Health Administration and Management – GIMPA, 2018. Post Certificate in Governance and Leadership from Pentecost University, Accra 2019. He is Nutritionist by profession. He is married to Mrs. Barbara Akoto Sarkodie. He has three (3) children. Captain Augustine Asare Sarkodie (Navy Officer), Dr. Jennifer Asantewaa Sarkodie (Netherlands) and Priscilla Akyemaa Sarkodie, Student, Pentecost University, Ghana.

Accomplishments

  • Participated in developing and scaling up Essential Nutrition Actions and HIV/AIDS preventive activities.

  • Implemented and scaled up Community-Based Growth Promotion (CBGP) activities in the Eastern Region to improve nutritional outcomes for children aged 0–2 years.

  • Conducted capacity development research studies in districts (Kwahu South, Atiwa, and Birim North).

  • Facilitated the designation of 119 health facilities as baby-friendly facilities.

  • Developed the Eastern Regional HIV/AIDS Strategic Plan (2011–2015).

  • Promoting continuous education among healthcare professionals

  • Scaled up Community Infant and Young Child Feeding (CIYCF) and HIV/AIDS counseling in 33 districts in the Eastern Region (2013–2016).

  • Implemented Community-Based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) in 33 districts and 25 hospitals (2012–2016).

  • Facilitated the peer review mechanism for supportive supervision in the Eastern Region (2009–2020).
