Background
La-Nkwantananang Madina Municipal Assembly is one of the twenty-nine (29) districts in the Greater Accra Region. Geographically, it is a small municipality, which lies in the northeastern part of Greater Accra region and covers a land Area of 166 sq km. It is boarded on the west by the Ga East Municipal Assembly (GEMA), on the east by the Adentan Municipal Assembly (AdMA), the south by Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) and the north by the Akwapim South District Assembly.
It is currently divided into of five (5) sub-municipals namely, Nkwantanang, Danfa, Social Welfare, Tatanaa and Pantang.
Population
The population of the municipality is 51% male and 49.0% female with an average household size of 6.2. There are about 23 settlements in the municipality with Madina, as the capital. The population is concentrated mainly along the urban and peri-urban areas of the municipality. Below is the trend of population growth and distribution by sub municipals. The estimated or projected population is 265,263 as at 2024. The current projected population for WIFA is 63,663, children under the age of 5yrs is also 49,074 and the expected pregnancy 10,611.

Health Sector Medium Term Development (HSMTDP) Objectives
1. Universal access to better and efficiently managed quality healthcare services
2. Reduce avoidable, maternal, adolescent and child deaths & disabilities
3. Increase access to responsive clinical and public health emergency services
Priorities of the Health Directorate
- Improve coverage of EPI services at sub-municipal level through community health systems and strengthen the health system with emphasis on CHPs Concept.
- Increase access & use of modern contraceptives; ante-& post- natal care; improve access to maternal health services in health facilities, improve access to safe blood and improve access to family planning.
- Reduce Morbidity & Mortality of Communicable diseases particularly Malaria, HIV&AIDS, TB and diarrheal diseases
- Improve on Institutional care including Mental Health
La-Nkwantanang Madina Municipal Health Directorate works in collaboration with all health facilities, partners, stakeholders and NGOs to ensure that every individual, household and community within the Municipality is adequately informed about health and has equitable access to quality health care and related interventions.

Improved health status and reduced inequalities in health outcomes of the people living in La Nkwantanang Madina through safety and quality, service delivery, people, financial management, partnerships and strategic growth.
Health Infrastructure
The Municipality has five (5) sub-municipalities for the administration of health care services namely: Nkwantanang, Social Welfare, Pantang, Tananaa and Danfa.
Health Facilities in the Municipality
There are seventy-seven (77) health facilities in the municipality. Out of this number, two (2) are government Polyclinics, one Health Centre, one CHAG facility (Pentecost Hospital), one Quasi health facility (UPSA Clinic) and 49 Community Based Health Planning (CHPS) zones. The Polyclinics are Madina Polyclinic, (Kekele) and Madina Polyclinic Rawlings Circle. The health centre is at Danfa Health Centre. There is a specialized Psychiatric Hospital at Pantang. The Pentecost Hospital is a mission facility at Madina Estate, and it serves as the Municipal Hospital. The rest of the 24 are private health facilities of which 18 of them conduct deliveries.

Geographically, it is one of the densely populated municipalities in the Greater Accra region. Fair view of the Municipality reveals public services and trading as dominant in its occupational scene, followed by farming and craftsmanship.
Governance
The Municipal Assembly the highest administrative and political authority in the municipality was established in 2012 by an Act of Parliament (Legislative Instrument 2030) with its capital at Madina.
