Background

The Krowor Municipal is among the newly created municipalities in the Greater Accra Region. It lies on the coast, sandwiched between Tema West Municipality to the East and partly north-east and Ledzokuku Municipality to the west, while a small portion of the north aligns with the Accra-Tema Motorway. It was carved out of the former Ledzokuku-Krowor Municipal Assembly in the year 2018 with a Legislative Instrument 2318 of 2017.

The municipal health directorate has a population of 156,621. The district is made up of three sub-districts namely Krowor North, Krowor South and Krowor Central. The indigenous people of Krowor are Gas and they live in the Nungua Township in the south of the district. Their main occupation is fishing and fish mongering. The Krowor North and Krowor Central sub-municipals are more cosmopolitan and the community members in these are mainly traders and industrial workers.

The population of Krowor has 4% (6,265) being under one and 4 %(6,265) being expected pregnancies. The district has 26 health facilities, sixteen (16) CHPS Zones, one (1) Polyclinic and (1) Health center, (1) CHAG and (7) being private health facilities. The top fives diseases in the district include Upper Respiratory Tract Infections, Acute Urinary Tract Infections, Thyphoid Fever, Diarrhoea and Septicaemia.
